Albanian-English cake glossary

Ordering a cake in Kosovo comes with its own vocabulary. Here are the words we and our customers use most, in Albanian and English, so nothing gets lost when you describe the cake you want.

Torte me porosi

Custom cake

A cake designed and made to order for a specific occasion, rather than chosen from a fixed menu.

Fondan

Fondant

A smooth, roll-out sugar paste used to cover a cake for a clean, sculpted finish.

Krem gjalpi

Buttercream

A soft whipped frosting made with butter, giving a softer look and a lighter taste than fondant.

Kat / Kate

Tier / Tiers

A stacked level of a cake. Multi-tier cakes are used for weddings and larger celebrations.

Mbushje

Filling

The cream, fruit or ganache between the cake layers. Each tier can have a different filling.

Dasma

Wedding

The wedding. Wedding cakes (torte dasme) are usually tiered and sized to the guest count.

Fejesa

Engagement

The engagement celebration. Engagement cakes (torte fejese) are one of our most common orders.

Diplomim

Graduation

A school or university graduation, a popular occasion for a celebration cake.

Porcione / Racione

Servings

The number of portions a cake yields. See our cake sizes and servings guide for typical counts.

Kapkejk

Cupcake

Individual small cakes, often served alongside or instead of a tiered cake.

Dessert table

A spread of cupcakes, cake pops and mini-desserts arranged alongside the main cake.
